Rendcomb College Junior Forest School
Here at Rendcomb College, individuals are encouraged to be curious about their environment. Our superb setting enables us to provide a beautiful and vast outdoor area including our award-winning Junior Forest School.
Located in the ‘Wilderness’, our Forest School allows pupils to embrace the natural world in a safe and supportive environment, guided by our fully qualified leaders. We provide them with the freedom to experience unfamiliar challenges, such as fire lighting, shelter building, and den making.
Our Forest School is based on principles of building confidence, boosting self-esteem and encouraging a love of the natural environment, which we have seen benefit pupils of all ages.
Forest School activities are designed to complement the National Curriculum. Children engage in a variety of fun, and muddy, tasks outside, which range from going on mini-beast hunts and collecting natural objects to creative activities, digging, using tools and shelter building. These activities are successful at developing children’s physical and co-ordination skills as well as their social skills as they learn to work together and express themselves individually.
The activities enable them to experience numeracy, literacy, science and many other subjects within a practical and engaging environment. The sessions take place in all weathers and are flexible in order to make the most of the learning potential that nature offers at any one time. We provide both timetabled lessons and after school activities in Forest School.
All Pupils from Nursery to Year 6 have a timetabled Forest School or Outdoor education session each week.
